Two years ago, the Netherlands finally made it to the final, with Anouk singing the song 'Birds', to add the matter of the fact they did not just went to the finally, but they reached the 9th place with 114 point. Netherlands, had actually appeared in Eurovision for 57 times, ever since their debut in 1956. In general, the Dutch could actually be considered as a successful country in the contest with over 4 wins, 3 silvers and a bronze. But that was decades ago, even though they never qualified for 8 years in a row, they managed to get back up again in 2013. In 2014, they managed to win the semi-final and get their third silver in the final with 238 points with The Common Linnets singing Calm After The Storm. Unfortunately, their success only lasted for a couple of years as they didn't make it to the grand final in 2015, finishing 14th in the first semi-final out of 16 entries.
So, WHY didn't they qualified? Was it because of Trijntje Oosterhuis's controversial dress? Or was it because she didn't do much walking on the stage? Overall, there are many reasons for them to not WALK ALONG to the final.
I actually loved the song from the first time I heard it but I had lost my interest on that catchy song, which keeps repeating the phrase "Why? Why aiaiaiaiaiaiii? Why aiaiaiaiaiaiiiii?", eversince I watched the live version. Besides that, her performance was so interesting, until I fell asleep, as she only sung at the same place and doing hand movements. Actually, I wanted an energetic performance, which could still build a bridge between her and the viewers but at the end, it was only her singing at the same place. I guess that the other reason, was the dress, the three different dresses, from a dress which really shows her cleavage, to a tight fitting dress and at the end, the Aladdin outfit. In my opinion, I think that they didn't qualify because it had lost against the other songs, like Belgium and Russia who did a great job with their live performance, while for Netherlands, they didn't even play the magic and their performance was really boring. I am sure that they could have qualified, if they could make a good use of the song, like Hungary, Boggie really showed the meaning of the song Wars For Nothings, thus causing me to cry as I could feel it, I could feel the message being delivered.
Overall, I just hope that Douwe Bob, would bring the golden ticket for Netherlands in Stockholm, so that the Netherlands could qualify again. So, good luck Douwe Bob, see you in Stockholm!!!
